Abstract | Through the 4-H Wheat Science project, students learn the importance of wheat from the complete process of growing wheat to the final product of bread. The curriculum is designed to include hands-on experiences in science, consumer education, nutrition, production economics, vocabulary, and applied mathematics. Teachers can select those units out of eight which enhance the individual classroom needs. The eight units include: (1) "Comparisons and Contrasts"; (2) "Wheat Science Experiments"; (3) "Wheat Production and Marketing"; (4) "Consumer Education/Nutrition"; (5) "Math Practical Application"; (6) "Wheat Trivia Game"; (7) "Breadmaking"; and (8) "Cultural Breads--Bread the World Over." Supplemental wheat science activities and a resource list of audiovisuals and literature are included. (KR) |
