Abstract	This manual was designed to help teachers of the early secondary grades deal with fear, ignorance, and prejudice in students encountering the problem of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and its transmission. Three groups of students are of particular concern: those who are victims of abusive remarks, those who feel AIDS is reserved for certain groups and that they are immune, and those who may be involved in prostitution to support drug habits or basic needs. Emphasis in this manual is on awareness, acceptance, and accountability. The unit uses the word "applesauce" as a symbol for working together with understanding to produce harmony, reduce the spread of AIDS, and lessen prejudice among young people. Objectives and activities are offered from which teachers may select the ones they consider appropriate for their classes. (JD)
