Abstract | This curriculum is designed for adult learners in the workplace whose reading and writing skills have never been developed as much as desired or whose skills have atrophied. The overall goal is to bring these learners to a level approximately equivalent to the end of 12th grade. This volume contains four of the nine modules in the curriculum; a companion volume contains the others. Module topics are: (1) reading; (2) mechanics: grammar and punctuation; (3) writing effective sentences; and (4) writing paragraphs. Each module consists of the following: overview, description of prerequisite knowledge and skills, approximate number of weeks to complete based on a contact hour per week schedule, list of objectives delineating the concepts students will learn and the skills they will acquire, background theory to these concepts and skills, activities and exercises to teach the concepts and skills, and suggestions for expansion. Teacher's versions for each exercise or test follow the student's versions; both versions are suitable for photocopying. (YLB) |
