Abstract	In fiscal year 1987, the Southern Rural Development Center was involved with 40 projects, task forces, symposia, conferences, workshops and other activities, focusing specifically on the rural problems of the region and supporting the community development efforts of 29 land-grant institutions in 13 southern states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Selected activities and topics included: the Rural South in Crisis; National Rural Entrepreneurship Symposium; Alternative Farming Opportunities for the South; the Competitive Position of Southern Agriculture in a World Economy; Computer Selection and Use in Local Government; Alternative Uses of Highly Erodible Agricultural Land; Fee Fishing as an Economic Alternative for Small Farms; Managing Exhaustible Resources; Policy Working Group on Groundwater Quality; Risk and Natural Resources; the Food Security Act of 1985; Potential Social Impacts from the Diffusion of Bovine Somatotropin; Development of Alternative Beef Production Systems for the Southeast Using Cotton and Poultry Wastes; Triennial Southern Community Resources Development Conference; Agriculture and Community Development Interface; Diversification Strategies for a New Southern Agriculture; Economic and Fiscal Impact Modeling for the Southern United States; and Assessment of Economic Contributions of the Recreation and Tourism Industry to Rural Coastal Zones. The Center's information dissemination program produced newsletters, conference materials, progress reports and other project information. (JMM)
