Abstract | This issue was developed in preparation for the 1987 International Congress on Environmental Education and Training and contains suggested elements for an action plan for the 1990s to be drafted as an outcome of the conference. A major portion of the document discusses nine objectives for inclusion in the proposed plan. These are: (1) the reinforcement of international systems of information and exchange of environmental education (EE) experiences; (2) strengthening research and experimentation in educational contents, methods and strategies for the organization and transmission of messages concerning EE and training; (3) the promotion of EE through the development of curricula and teaching materials for use in general education; (4) promotion of training for personnel responsible for in-school and out-of-school EE; (5) incorporation of an environmental dimension into technical and vocational education; (6) strengthening of public education through the major communication media and the new information technologies; (7) integrating EE more effectively into university education through appropriate mechanisms; (8) promoting specialized scientific and technical training in the environment; and (9) the development of EE through cohesive cooperation at the international and regional levels.
