Abstract | The purpose of this curriculum guide is to assist Training Specialists to teach Adult Basic Education/General Education Development (ABE/GED) students intermediate skills in reading, English, and mathematics. The guide begins with an introduction (purpose, overview, adult learner characteristics, teacher type), curriculum policies, curriculum structure, and specific intermediate level information. Materials are provided for courses at the fifth-grade level (501-503), sixth-grade level (601-603), seventh-grade level (701-703), and eighth-grade level (801-803) for reading, English, and mathematics. Each set of course materials begins with a general objective. The course materials correlate specific objectives with teaching/learning activities (suggestions of possible ways to introduce or clarify a concept) and supplementary exercises (correlations, by exercise number, to the five student supplementary exercise books to be used with this curriculum). Appendixes include samplings of internal and external materials and resources, a list of audiovisual materials correlated to course subjects, a list of Illinois Adult and Continuing Educators Association's professional standards, a training specialist input form, and a 67-item bibliography.
