Abstract | This paper presents a training model for the acquisition of helping skills, which stresses that participants be themselves and develop a personal facilitative style of helping. The model, originally designed for a master's- level counseling pre-practicum, utilizes a continuous flow of feedback among participants, their peers and instructors. The sequential lecturettes and activities included in this manual are designed to integrate self-awareness, helping atti- tudes, and basic facilitative skills through an 11-module instructional format. This instructor's manual includes specific lesson plans for the presentation of each module as well as readings, activities, and evaluations where appli- cable. The goals of training, the structure of the training manual, and recommended training guidelines are also briefly discussed. (Author/NRB) |
