Abstract | Papers presented at a conference on Asian and Pacific American women held by the National Institute of Education in 1976 are published in this document. In addition, the individual and group recommendations of the participants are included. The first three sections present an overview of the conference, the keynote address, and a summary of recommendations. The fourth section is devoted to five papers presented by community organizers. They address the issues of childrearing practices, mental health, women's organizations, professional health education, and educational alternatives. The fifth section presents seven papers by researchers and a summary of recommendations. Topics addressed in this section include immigration, kinship systems and educational and occupational attainment, early socialization of female children, economic and employment statuses, social mobility, the elderly, and Asian wives of U.S. servicemen. Appendices list the names and addresses of conference participants and present information on a sample of relevant NIE-funded projects. (MK) |
