Abstract | The Civic Education Program of Our Lady of Holy Cross College provides education for Vietnamese refugees with regard to: (1) the history of the United States; (2) the function of Federal, State and local governments as they relate to the Constitution of the United States; and (3) the role of the citizen in a democracy with respect to the law. The goal of the project is to provide civic education for the Vietnamese living in the New Orleans area so that they may achieve a smoother entry into American life and culture and participate effectively in the democratic processes. Teaching modules are provided for the above mentioned areas. Included in the modules are a description, rationale, list of objectives, instructional methods, learning activities, list of resources, and formative tests in English and Vietnamese. (Author/RLV) |
