Abstract | This report on the financial circumstances of Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) recipients in May, 1975, is Part III of a three-part broad study of recipient characteristics. Part I provides demographic and program statistics, and Part II provides data on child support enforcement. The data were derived from a sample survey which included all states and jurisdictions except Guam. The minimum sample required from each state was one-half of one percent, but states were given the option to submit larger samples computed by specified formulas. Twenty-nine states provided samples large enough for reliable state data to be included in the tabulations. Data are also shown for all 10 Health, Education and Welfare (HEW) regions. Sample data are inflated to represent all families receiving money payments during the study month. Therefore, the data are subject to sampling variability and, as in all surveys, the figures are subject to errors of response. A brief overview of the financial circumstances of AFDC families in 1975 prefaces the 26 tables included in the report. Appendices provide a glossary of selected terms and a discussion of sample design and of data accuracy. (Author/RH) |
