AbstractThe purpose of this project was to develop and disseminate a conceptual model for comprehensive secondary school (7-12) career guidance programs. The model consisted of transportable packages intended to provide a framework for the delivery of career guidance strategies designed to facilitate the achievement of desired student outcomes. Initially, sixteen Georgia school systems were involved, but later seven systems were discontinued and twenty-one new systems were added. A needs assessment was conducted to ascertain need priorities for program planning and development, and a multiple criterion approach to the assessment of the project was planned (some of the instruments are appended). The major conclusions are (1) though staff development is costly and frustrating, it seems to be the key to lasting effect and carry-over from project orientation to project continuation; and (2) there is a critical need at all levels (state, local, and federal) for more program coordination. (Numerous materials are appended, including guides for training paraprofessionals, establishing a career guidance center, setting up a career guidance library, and evaluating the program. Also, twenty-four related documents are available, such as a program development guide--CE 018 146; a staff development handbook--CE 018 138; an external evaluation of the training materials--CE 018 339; and several staff development training manuals and materials for both the secondary and elementary school levels.)
