AbstractThis is the final report of a Kansas state project which had four purposes: (1) Involvement of teacher training institutions with the unified school districts' career education program in order to gather information needed to provide realistic experiences for inservice education of future career education teachers, (2) involve the community in school activities, (3) generate additional occupational and career education materials for use of teachers and students, and (4) extend career knowledge opportunities to more students in Kansas. The first section of the report is an evaluation report of the project in the Unified School District in Pittsburg, Kansas, which presents results of a variety of standardized tests administered to students in grades 3, 6, and 9 to measure perceptions of themselves and the relations to peers, teachers and school; achievement in skills and content areas of the curriculum; and knowledge of different careers. (Tests used were the National Testing Service Self Observation Scales, the Harcourt Brace Metropolitan Achievement Tests, and the McGraw Hill Career Maturity Inventory.) The second section of the report, an evaluation of the project in Unified District in Emporia provides (1) background information of the overall Kansas project, (2) abstracts of characteristics of the community and school system, (3) description of the purpose, philosophy, and objectives of career education program, (4) process evaluation, and (5) product evaluation. It concludes that each of the goals was realized to a great extent and that the program increased student, faculty, and community awareness of how career education can be meaningfully integrated into many aspects of the educational system.
