Abstract	This review forms part of a larger study called SPARCLE that aims to identify which environmental factors, if improved, will yield the greatest benefits for disabled children1 and their families. [It] brings together for the first time factors relevant to the lives of disabled children which operate at national level in seven European countries. It is a unique collation, although the review does not cover all EU countries and will inevitably become out of date. The review was commissioned to inform a European research study (SPARCLE) across seven countries and is published here as a stand alone document so as to: - raise the profile of childhood disability, - emphasise opportunities for environmental adjustment to reduce disability, - be a resource for developers of social policy, - be an example of a report that could be adopted by the EU for regular collation and updating across all EU countries. The content of the review will be incorporated in to the SPARCLE project in two ways: - by comparing such national context with the actual experience of disabled children and their parents, - by assisting with qualitative and quantitative interpretation of results. The report is primarily a resource and is not set out or edited to be read cover to cover. It is in two volumes, with chapters by context domain in the first volume and by country in the second. Each of the country chapters is set out in the same way with a Table about each context domain starting each section.(DIPF/Orig.).
