Abstract | This publication is the result of collaboration between six European university teams, and was carried out as part of the Socrates 6.1.2. programme, with the support of the European Commission. The project is intended to measure and compare the equity of the education systems in the European Union Member States (when this project started in May 2001, the European Union had 15 member states. The indicators created and presented here concern these 15 countries plus Norway and Switzerland. A few of them only include some data related to the new member states. In the long run, the set of indicators should be extended to the 25 member states the EU has today). As a result, decision-makers and users will be better informed about equity in the existing systems. This is intended to help decision-makers to refine their educational policies. This publication reports on a several-year period of work on the issue of the equity of educational systems. It is structured into three main sections. The second part [i.e. this document] presents the twenty-nine indicators built in the context of this project and organized according to the framework. (DIPF/Orig.). |
