| Abstract | The issue at stake behind the recurrent concerns about the recruitment of secondary school teachers is really the modes of access to the function and what being committed to the teaching profession means. Despite the changes regarding the working conditions as well as the modes of practice, vocation is still invoqued by the representatives of the institutions, by the media, by part of the members of the profession to account for the reasons of the adoption or rejection of a job still currently referred to in terms of devotion or destiny. The secondary exploitation of a survey carried out by means of a questionnaire addressed to a representative sample made up of 1000 secondary school teachers brings to light on one hand the variety of the means of access to the profession and the motivations that lead to the profession and on the other hand the consequences of a professional socialization that pushes teachers into making do with the realities they unveil at various stages in their career. These realities compel them to redefine willingly or with resignation their professional identity and to reconsider the reasons for their "choosing" this profession. (DIPF/orig.). |
