Abstract	This paper gives an overview on VET research in a number of non-EU countries. It seeks to identify and to structure research undertaken at national, regional and international levels. However, to present a com prehensive and all-embracing study is almost impossible because of the difficult demarcations of VET research with corresponding research activities, the multi- and interdisciplinary orientation in various countries and the heterogeneity of the institutions, associations and researchers involved. In a first step, based on secondary analyses, the most important institutions, networks and research outcomes in the countries, regions and international organisations covered by this paper are described in different depth. Primary analyses have been carried out for the People's Republic of China, Canada, South America and for the IEA. For the other countries and institutions, work focused an stocktaking of relevant VET research provisions (research results, databases, thematic and other networks, information on classification systems, etc.).
