Abstract | This paper describes a teacher-training program in Quechua-speaking Andean to the value of the local culture and Peru, which sought to sensitise teachers language. A questionnaire to evaluate the program was developed and administered to the teacher-trainees. Factor analysis revealed six factors underlying trainees' responses. Further analysis demonstrated that year of training predicted trainees' responses, as did cultural identification, but not cultural background. These findings suggest that the program was successful in sensitizing the trainees to the local culture and language, and that cultural identity may be more important than cultural background in determining teachers' attitudes.
