Abstract | Argues that the gap between transmission and reception is fundamental to most communication. Summarizes theorizing on communication and mass communication in Plato, about U.S. broadcasting, and in hermeneutics. Concludes that a conceptual contrast between open dissemination (mass) and individualized interaction (interpersonal) is inevitable because human beings are finite. (SR) |
