AbstractIs there a disconnect between counselors and educators in technology and vocational education? What is counseling, and what is a school counselor's role in a secondary school setting? How can one work with his or her guidance staff to ensure that students better understand your course offerings? The development of relationships, knowledge, and specific practices on the part of both school counselors and technology education teachers can promote program success. Counselor bias can play a huge role in course selection at the high school level. A counselor can be an asset rather than an adversary. This article suggests multiple approaches that may result in enhanced counselor support: (1) developing and maintaining a relationship with counseling staff can result in a partnership or team approach with recruitment; (2) understanding both counseling and the codified standards within school counseling's career domain allows one to tout the attainment of career readiness aspects within technology education; and (3) providing tools to help explain one's course offerings not only ensures the successful marketing but the development of technological literacy for all parties concerned.
