Abstract | This report provides an overview of research designed to dispel myths about performance in high poverty and high minority schools. It identifies schools that have had high performance on a particular state assessment for at least 2 years in a row. The results are based on an analysis of high performance over multiple years in any of six possible subject areas, depending on which are tested in each state (reading, language arts, math, science, social studies, and writing). Results find that: 2,770 high poverty and high minority schools have had high performance in at least one particular grade level and subject area over multiple years; 904 schools have had high performance at more than one grade level over multiple years; 1,287 have had high performance in more than one subject area over multiple years; and 721 have had high performance at more than one grade level and in more than one subject over multiple years. Out of the 2,770 schools, 135 were magnet schools, and 17 were charter schools. Data on school contact information, school characteristics, and school achievement (grades and subjects with high performance over multiple years) are appended. (SM) |
