Abstract	This paper describes the different methods used to evaluate individually configurable multimedia materials developed for the Horizon project, a program designed to increase employment opportunities for students with disabilities or learning difficulties. The project established a working cafe/restaurant in East London staffed by the students. Part of the project involved the creation of multimedia units, linked directly to Level 1 National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) in Catering and Business Studies, to support the training of the Cafe Horizon workers. Cafe workers attended a college one day each week where they used multimedia materials to work toward their NVQ in Catering. Learners worked individually or in small groups with specialist support workers who assisted users and participated in evaluation of the software. This paper discusses the five methods used for formative and summative evaluation of the project and some benefits and limitations of each method are presented. Evaluation methods included: expert evaluation, analysis of logged data, questionnaire methods, interview methods, and video methods. The difficulties in evaluating the program are also reviewed. Results found that a combination approach to evaluation was better than any single method at identifying problems, particularly when methods were combined with expert evaluation.
