Abstract | The 24 units that comprise this crop and soil science curriculum guide are not geared to a particular age level and must be adapted to the students for whom they are used. Units 1 through 6 are general units covering topics common to soil science. Units 7 through 24 are units covering topics common to crop production. Each unit includes objectives and competencies, suggested activities for the instructor and students, information sheets, transparency masters, assignment and/or job sheets, answers to assignment sheets, a test, and answers to the test. Units are planned for more than one lesson or class period. Topics covered include elementary study of soils, soil fertility, irrigation, land preparation, soil conservation practices, land judging, introduction to crop science, basic plant processes, plant growth and development, crop and weed identification, insect pests of crops, plant disease identification and control, crop chemicals, seed selection, planting, potato production, small grain production, corn production, forage production, pasture management, rangeland management, specialty crops, crop storage, and crop marketing and exporting.
