Abstract | This curriculum guide offers a complete program for teaching pre-employment job-seeking skills that can be implemented in the secondary or postsecondary school. It contains 15 units on job search methods and job survival skills, divided into 40 lesson plans that teachers can use in the classroom. The material is intended to be integrated into regular vocational education courses, or used as a self-contained one-fourth credit course. Subjects covered in the units include an introduction to the course of study, sources of employment, data sheets and resumes, initial contact with employers, application forms, employment tests, job interviews, rejection shock, being hired, job survival, job advancement, termination of employment, equal employment opportunity, and evaluation. The final unit is a student handbook for the course, and a bibliography also is included. Many of the pages in the guide can be reproduced and given to students for worksheets or may be used to make transparencies for use with an overhead projector. (KC) |
