Abstract | Ruscio talks about role of the university president. A college president is in charge, but only nominally so. In reality a president's authority is ill defined, constrained, and shared with others. Presidents face the constant challenge of seeking to lead institutions with distinctive cultures, often long histories, and convoluted structures binding together several constituencies. Each constituency -- alumni, faculty, students, parents, employees, public officials, and trustees -- sees itself as the sun around which the other constituencies rotate. |
