Abstract | This fall--after the initial buzz that comes with going to college, meeting new friends, quad parties, and having to get to class without the watchful eyes of parents--some members of the Class of 2015 will begin to a slow descent down a rocky road of social and academic struggle. College can be a transformational experience. But an opportunity that isn't accompanied by a personal road map, some real talk, and the chance for deep reflection doesn't mean much. This article shares how the Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF)--a nonprofit, tuition-free supplemental education and youth development organization serving public school students in New York City--guides and supports college students through to graduation.
