Abstract	Tornados, shootings, fires--these are emergencies that require fast action by school district personnel, but they are not the only incidents that require risk management. The authors have introduced the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command System (ICS) and assured that these systems can help educators plan for and manage everything from a school shooting to a field trip. They are called "incident" management and "incident" command systems because an incident is anything that has an impact on student learning in the school and classroom. Effective incident response requires a detailed plan that distributes responsibilities across the school or district. That is where the ICS comes in. This article takes a look at how the process is put into practice by examining an incident that requires educators to move the students off campus. (ERIC).
