Abstract | Anniversaries are appropriate times for reflecting on the past and planning for the future, and in this 100th anniversary year of Sigmund Freud's famous group meeting--a meeting among a large group of prominent mental health professionals that provides a useful marker and arguable "starting point" for contemporary youth suicide prevention efforts, there would appear to be no better time for school psychologists to increase their professional knowledge and skills in youth suicide prevention, assessment, and intervention. Youth suicidal behavior has been and remains a significant public health problem, and there are few if any problems in the nation's schools that require more urgent attention. School psychologists can and should play a significant role in school-based suicide prevention efforts, and avail themselves of the many resources available from NASP and other organizations in support of this initiative.
