Abstract | Harmonizing relations between children and parents is one of the priority objectives of social-pedagogical activity whose purpose is to create conditions favorable to the successful development of the child and the strengthening of the family's upbringing potential. This is necessitated by the fact that the upbringing and other vital functions of the rural family have become weakened as a result of social, economic, cultural, and educational crisis phenomena in the rural socium that have not been successfully addressed, as well as the situation of many rural children, which can be characterized by worsening somatic, mental, and social health, impaired psychosocial development, and lowered adaptive and socializing possibilities. Relations within the family and the resources of the social-pedagogical support of the family and specialists that are oriented toward the development of the children in the rural socium were analyzed on the basis of a social-pedagogical study supervised in the framework of a 2007 project of the Institute of Social-Pedagogical Problems of the Rural School, Russian Academy of Sciences, with the title "The Development of Education as a Condition Necessary for the Improvement of the Rural Socium," in rural families of the middle belt of Russia (Moscow and Vladimir oblasts), the northern regions (Vologda oblast), and the northern settlements of Perm krai (the Upper Kama region). The questionnaire survey was participated in by 492 parents (of whom 44 percent had children of preschool age, from one and a half to six years old, while 56 percent had children of school age). The respondents expressed their opinions about the relations between children and parents in their families and about the current state of social-pedagogical activity with the purpose of supporting the family and its most urgent needs for help in the successful development of the child. In this article, the author analyzes the results of this survey. [This article was translated by Kim Braithwaite.] (ERIC). |
