AbstractEach year, in its Annual Education Issue, "Exceptional Parent" magazine honors the education professionals that readers feel have made a positive difference in the lives of children with special needs at school and other educational environments. These teachers and administrative personnel spend their careers working to enhance the quality of education that students with disabilities receive and they perform their jobs with a passion, creativity, and professionalism that sets them apart from the rest. This article presents individuals who have been chosen as the 2009 Models of Excellence in the Education Profession. They are: (1) Cheryl O'Brien, Vocational Training Program Coordinator at Heartspring in Wichita, Kansas; (2) Patti VanDeHey, Special education teacher at Sanborn Elementary School in Palatine, Illinois; (3) Sarah White, Teacher at Stewart Home School in Frankfort, Kentucky; (4) Jean Gardner, Teacher at the Dr. Gertrude A. Barber National Institute in Erie, Pennsylvania; (5) Nina A. Ghiselli, PsyD, Systemwide Director of Disability Services at Alliant International University; (6) Lynn Peterson, Teacher at Matheny School in Peapack, New Jersey; (7) Susan N. Schriber Orloff, OTR/L, Occupational Therapist, educator, author, columnist, working-owner of Children's Special Services, LLC and child advocate; and (8) Teresa Anderson, Amanda Eshenbaugh, Katie Kaltenbach, Erin Keech, and Melissa Knightes, Special education teachers for the REACH Program of Norfolk, Virginia.
