Abstract | The author was appointed principal of a large, urban comprehensive high school in spring 2008. One of the first things she had to figure out was how she would develop a connection with her students when there were so many of them--nearly 2,000--and only one of her. Texts may be exchanged more quickly than having a conversation over the phone, exchanging e-mail messages, or holding an appointment. In this article, the author describes how texting students has proven to be an easy way to communicate with a large student body in a personal, individual way. It enables the author to give students the attention they need and deserve. (ERIC). |
