Abstract | There is no shortage of online learning platforms available today. Whether it is Blackboard (www.blackboard.com), Desire2Learn (www.desire2learn.com), Sakai (www.sakaiproject.org), Moodle (www.moodle.org), Angel Learning (www.angellearning.com), Datatel (projected to be a CMS player in Q4 2008; www.datatel.com, or another product, chances are that someone has evaluated it at some point in the not-too-distant past. But investigating the value of the "assessment" components of these tools is, according to the author, a much more complex process. Many higher education administrators trust their CMS (Content Management Systems) vendors implicitly, but a growing number are engaging in their own forms of metrics to gauge how well students are doing when they are educated or accessing education content online. The author discusses how savvy educators and technologists are meeting the challenge. (ERIC). |
