Abstract | In this article, the author reflects on her session at the 2006 conference, including the learning styles and strategies she observed. In her session, they explored some of the more unusual aspects of convex polyhedra (with regular faces), including the notions of "valence" and "species". Although the session was about shape and space, there was also a bit of algebra involved! This article describes the problems posed as well as the variety of approaches taken by the participants in response to the challenges set, some wishing to focus on certain shapes and their dissections and to make them, whilst others wanted to get into more algebraic ideas.
