AbstractIn this article, a principal is inspired to change the conversations with students and staff members from discipline and deficit to hope and planning for future achievement. He wants conversations to be more about academic goals and decision making and less about discipline and random acceptance of postsecondary plans. He has asked all staff members to establish priorities by asking students what college and career they are considering before asking any other question. By changing educators daily conversations, they can help students recognize the direct connection between their current behavior and choices in high school and their future success in college and the workplace. As a result of changing conversations, educators are changing the way they educate. The AP program, once considered a place for elite students, is now open to any student who is motivated, attends school regularly, and is willing to attend tutoring sessions if necessary. Changing the conversations changes students' beliefs. Changing the conversations changes teachers' expectations. (ERIC).
