Abstract	In this article, a principal demonstrates a high level of caring by visiting at-risk students in their homes each summer. As the principal of a relatively small, middle class community's only middle level school, the author has the opportunity and responsibility to connect with many students and their respective families--and indirectly, with many of the issues that characterize their lives. Yet, he feels that he can better connect, especially with his at-risk students, by showing a greater amount of visible care than would normally be possible for any educator within his or her conventional routine. Normally, day-to-day professional responsibilities make it difficult to accomplish what is possible through a very different, more personal, and more visible approach. However, he has found that home visits make a huge difference in how well he knows and understands his students, their families, and their problems. The home visits have been extremely well received. In this article, the author discusses the preparations being made and the lasting effects caused by the home visits. (ERIC).
