AbstractIn this article, the author shares the story of Gloria, a mathematics teacher. In her fifth year in college, while completing her master's degree, Gloria was placed in a year-long internship guided by a faculty of university- and school-based teacher educators in a professional development school. There, she worked with a team of fellow student teachers and expert veteran teachers who planned and taught together. When Gloria finished her internship year, she was ready for her first year of teaching. She had opportunities meeting and working with her teacher mentor and several other new middle school mathematics and science teachers throughout the year to discuss curriculum plans and share demonstration lessons. Gloria knew that all of these opportunities would be available to her when she was ready for them. With the strength of a preparation that had helped her put theory and practice together, and with the support of so many colleagues, Gloria felt confident that she could succeed at her life's goal: becoming--as she now understood, always becoming--a teacher. The story of Gloria is indeed a future vision of the new teacher. (ERIC).
