Abstract | In January 2002, the Tulsa (Oklahoma) Public Schools launched the Learning, Education, and Resource Network (LEARN) Academy, a learning opportunity for its noncertified staff. The academy provides intensive leadership skills development and opportunities. Participants include representatives of transportation, child nutrition, health services, secretarial/clerical, maintenance, custodial, grounds, and many teacher assistants and paraprofessionals. This diverse professional and cultural mix is one of the hallmarks of the program. Participants learn to understand each other's challenges and contributions to student achievement. The mission of the LEARN Academy is to develop highly competent noncertified staff leaders prepared to accept the challenges of leadership and perform its responsibilities with excellence. (ERIC). |
