Abstract | A household survey of 295 residents of 2 rural Missouri communities and their surrounding countryside found that 26% of the sample showed symptoms of depression. Depression was negatively related to age, education, other personal and socioeconomic characteristics, and community attachment for the total sample and to community's economic feasibility for town residents but not for countryside residents.
