Abstract | Discusses visions of self-control from the Western and Eastern traditions and suggests that neither vision represents a true reality. Precision nirvana as conceptualized here consists of applying ordinary awareness in self-management strategies, applying altered states in meditative strategies, and being able to know which mode of awareness is called for.
