Abstract | This article illustrates the potential of using children's play and interest in constructive materials like LEGO bricks to support early literacy, particularly in improving the use of descriptive language. The article describes an action plan using storytelling and constructive LEGO play to improve the children's use of descriptive language and thereby sustain a peer audience's attention during storytelling. The plan included three phases of implementation over seven weeks, with the teacher observing and recording how the children told their stories, noting any descriptive words the children used in their narratives. The children were asked for their perspectives and feelings about their storytelling experience during informal chats, which gave insights about how effective they thought the LEGO props were in their storytelling experience.
