AbstractThis article offers interview responses from Thomas Hébert, a professor of gifted and talented education in the College of Education at the University of South Carolina. Hébert was previously a faculty member at the University of Alabama and the University of Georgia. He has more than a decade of K-12 classroom experiences working with gifted students and 25 years in higher education training of graduate students and educators in gifted education. He has also conducted research for the National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented (NRC/GT). He served on the Board of Directors of the National Association for Gifted Children and the Association for the Gifted of the Council of Exceptional Children. He has provided consultancy internationally in Italy, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Paraguay, Peru, Colombia, Mexico, Chile, and Ghana. Among the interview topics are: what led Hébert to the field of gifted education, how his doctoral program at the University of Connecticut prepared him for his career in higher education, the appeal of qualitative research, insights learned about social and emotional development, advice about how educators can nurture gifted and talented students, and unique challenges counselors face when working with gifted males.
