| Abstract | Because we live in such a diverse world, it is imperative to teach students to understand and respect other cultures. Teaching multicultural games and activities in physical education provides an opportunity for students to experience and appreciate the culture and traditions of diverse populations. Native American stickball, originally referred to as "Little Brother of War," was historically played to settle disputes among Native tribes that otherwise might have escalated into feuds and wars. It continues today as part of ceremonial rituals, competition among Native populations, and as a recreational activity in communities and schools. This article introduces this multicultural activity that is rich in tradition for Native American cultures, and presents methods for teaching the skills utilized in Cherokee stickball.
