AbstractCurtis J. Bonk, is Professor of Instructional Systems Technology at Indiana University and President of CourseShare. Mimi Miyoung Lee is Associate Professor in the Department of Curriculum and instruction at the University of Houston. Thomas C. Reeves is Professor Emeritus of Learning, Design, and Technology at the University of Georgia. Thomas H. Reynolds is currently a Professor of Teacher Education at National University in La Jolla, California, where he researches design of online learning environments, standards- based online assessment, and innovations in e-learning. This article presents an interview with authors Mark Viner, Ellen Gardner, and Michael F. Shaughnessy in which they discuss "MOOCs and Open Education around the World." The interview begins with a definition of a MOOC, and also discusses such topics as whether or not MOOCS need to be standardized, does a standardized MOOC defy the definition of what a MOOC is or does, and implications for the evolution of the MOOC environment.
