Abstract | School attendance is a valuable key element in promoting academic achievement and determining student success inside and outside the classroom. However, due to the unforeseen circumstances of a deadly contagious, airborne disease, known as COVID-19, the pandemic has created the largest disruption within the education system in history, affecting nearly 1.6 billion students worldwide. The purpose of this qualitative research was to study a sample of faculty members, support staff, and administrators from two higher education institutions located in southeastern Mississippi to refine and expand an explanatory model of educators' responses by thoroughly examining and describing the contributing factors that may potentially hinder students' learning capabilities, thus, resulting in absenteeism, or poor attendance, in higher education.
