AbstractThis study aimed to investigate the challenges faced by Muslim college students in Connecticut in the US and the practical strategies they use to address these challenges. To accomplish this objective, a qualitative hermeneutical phenomenological study was designed and conducted, which involved in-depth interviews with Muslim college students and their parents. The study used the mission of higher education, the uniqueness of Islamic culture, and the principles of equity and social justice as guiding principles to guide the research process. The study findings revealed that Muslim college students encounter significant challenges related to their Muslim identity while attending US higher education institutions. These challenges include cultural clashes, balancing faith and academic responsibilities, stereotyping, discrimination, and lack of representation and support. To overcome these challenges, Muslim students employ various strategies, including seeking out supportive peers, faculty, and staff; developing coping mechanisms; and utilizing campus resources. The study results have significant implications for higher education leaders and stakeholders, highlighting the need for increased awareness and support for Muslim immigrant students. Addressing these challenges is crucial to improving the academic attainment, social integration, and career development of Muslim college students in the United States.
