AbstractThis quantitative, correlational study explored the relationship between teacher retention and teachers' perception of high school learning and the social-physical environment along the "I-95 Corridor of Shame." Two regression analyses were conducted using a dataset of 68 observations taken from 17 "I-95 Corridor of Shame" high schools state report card data. The first analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between teacher retention and teachers' perception of the learning environment (Coefficient = 0.73, P < 0.001). The second analysis showed a significant positive relationship between teacher retention and teachers' perception of the social-physical environment (Coefficient = 0.76, P < 0.001). These findings suggest that improving high schools' learning and social-physical environment can increase teacher retention rates. The study's results have important implications for policymakers and school administrators seeking to improve teacher retention rates in these high schools.
