Abstract | This document contains the sixth volume of the "National Series" of the "American Journal of Education." Topics cover scientific and industrial education while providing an account of system, institutions, and courses of instruction in the principles of science applied to the arts of peace and war in different countries. This issue's focus is on systems and institutions of special and technical instruction in countries and areas such as Austria, Bavaria, free cities of Germany, Prussia, France, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Russia, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. The "National Series" of the "American Journal of Education" was commenced in September 1867 including circulars, reports, and documents issued by the Editor as Commissioner of Education to the end of 1870. It comprises five volumes of 800 pages each, with a table of contents and index to each volume. The sixth volume was issued in 1871 in quarterly numbers, the first number of the year on January 15th, and subsequent numbers on April, July, and October 15th, making a volume of at least 800 pages.
