AbstractThis project consists of a problem-based learning project centered on the level of teacher and administrator preparedness in identifying, preventing, and reporting bullying in the state of Missouri. New legislation mandates districts to provide training to staff to prepare them for addressing bullying, which has become a concern in the United States in recent decades. The goal of the project was to determine the levels of preparedness among Missouri educators to respond to legislation and to determine the methods being used to prepare teachers and administrators to effectively identify, prevent, and respond to bullying. The research team distributed a survey to teachers and administrators to gather quantitative data on levels of secondary educators' preparedness, methods of reporting, and stakeholder involvement with identifying, preventing, and reporting bullying. Findings indicate teachers and principals rate the training or preparation they received higher in the areas of identifying and responding to bullying than in the area of preventing bullying. Most teachers and principals who participated in our survey indicated they participated in district mandatory training of all district policies at the beginning of the year in order to identify, prevent, or respond to incidents of bullying. This activity was cited more than all other activities as a training activity for bullying. The second highest activity cited by teachers and administrators with regard to training on identifying, preventing, and responding to bullying was through review of the employee handbook.
