AbstractThis bulletin reports on a study examining the various formulas and patterns of support for 2-year colleges and reviewing the proportion of this support which is received from the State, from the district, and from student sources. The study reviews the practices followed in the support of 2-year colleges in each State. It reveals the fact that many States have two types of 2-year colleges receiving public support. It also analyzes the laws and regulations of each State to discover any specific statements dealing with sources and amounts of support for these institutions; and identifies some unanswered questions, such as whether public 2-year colleges should be tuition-free, and what should be considered a 2-year college. State exhibits are given to show the laws, regulations, and practices followed in support of each type of publicly supported 2-year college. It is anticipated that this study will be helpful to those States and districts which are presently considering the establishment of 2-year colleges, as well as to those planning a reexamination of the support pattern for existing institutions.
