Abstract | In light of continuing educational reform and the increased focus on student achievement, school districts, states, and other constituents involved in preparing K-12 public school teachers have increasingly come under scrutiny as to how they have been and are continuing to prepare future educators. One area that has garnered increased attention is beginning teacher induction programs. The beginning of a teaching career can be very stressful for educators. Novice teachers are charged with the enormous demands of accountability. The weight of this obstacle is overbearing and teacher retention may be the casualty; consequently, induction programs are being scrutinized for their effectiveness. However, how effective have induction programs been in preparing teachers for this challenge? This study will examine the effectiveness of teacher induction and mentoring programs in one school district. The sample consisted of 64 beginning teachers, 71 mentors, and 54 administrators from elementary, middle, middle/high, and high schools.
