AbstractThis publication is aimed at middle managers in schools, colleges and other settings who have been given the responsibility for leading the transition from key skills to functional skills over the coming years. It provides an update on some of the developments with functional skills, explains some of the theory about leading from the middle, and gives practical advice on how to plan for the transition. Contents include: (1) Introduction; (2) Leading Change in Education; (3) Learning the Lessons from Introducing Key Skills; (4) Looking at Functional Skills and Thinking about the Transition; (5) Identifying Opportunities and Threats; and (6) Action Planning.
